Featured Artist: Tatsuro Kiuchi

This past week my sister introduced me to the amazing illustration work of Tatsuro Kiuchi as she was collecting inspiration for a 2017 calendar project we are starting to work on for Double Dare Print Studio.

What we love about his work is…EVERYTHING!

Tatsuro Kiuchi is a Japanese artist who studied biology in Tokyo. He later studied at the Art Centre College of Design in Pasadena, California.

He started out illustrating for children’s books (my dream job) in Japan and the US, and then branched out into editorial work for magazines. He has also worked in advertising and has illustrated his own book titled The Lotus Seed, written by Sherry Garland which has sold more than 200,000 copies worldwide!

I really admire his work and his decision to switch from a career in science to a career in art. It seems that he went after his passion and succeeded.

He incorporates a lot of texture in his work  and his colour palette is so calm.

Please visit his website (he has A LOT of work to look at!) to see more of his illustrations.

Stay tuned! I have lots of project to share from my own studio.
