Hello!!!
So the other day while in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia at a lovely little shop called Dot and Loops I came across their gorgeous card selection. In that card selection I found some amazing new artists to check out online. Yelena Bryksenkova is one of those artists!
Yelena is an illustrator who was born in Russia and grew up in Cleveland. She studied illustration at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore as well as the Academy of Decorative Arts in Prague.
Her illustrations are full of beautiful patterns and colours, all working together, and each carry a sort of quiet, simple narrative. She really knows how to capture a moment with pen and watercolour!
Yelena now works as a professional illustrator and fine artist in England. She is inspired by themes of home, and everyday objects. Her clients include The New York Times, Chronicle Books, Real Simple Magazine, and Urban Outfitters to name a few!
I am totally in awe of her work and her ability to capture a feeling. For instance the party scene above is just so beautifully executed. It’s a snapshot of one of those perfect little moments in life. The kind of moment you just want to quietly soak in for a few moment before it fades away.
It’s almost like a still from life. Just like a photograph, but somehow, with even more emotion and atmosphere. These illustrations could easily describe moments in our own lives. Dreamy.
Please, oh please, visit her fabulous website to see more of her work HERE, and she also writes a blog HERE!
Yelena I am totally crushing on your work.
Her work is fabulous! It really appeals to me as I love pared down palettes and use of pattern. Thanks for sharing.
I love her portrayal of couples… they remind me of the way a child would draw couples in love. It’s innocent, yet somehow, also sad. Like Bree said, there’s SO much to soak in. Love it & thank you for sharing!
