Wednesdoodles: A peek inside my sketchbook

doodlesbannerHello!

SO today in Nova Scotia it looks like THIS:

snowday

HUFF. OK so I am stuck inside today. Downtown Halifax is closed up and no one is going anywhere. I’ve decided to make the most of my day doodling and sketching out new ideas for some upcoming projects.

Processed with VSCOcamDouble Dare is working on a new line of greetings all focusing on pattern, and so I will be spending a lot of time over the next few weeks sketching away ideas for our new greeting cards due out in April. I’ve actually never explored surface pattern, and creating patterns has proved to be a real challenge for me.  I’ve been sketching a lot, and studying other people’s patterns to try to get the hang of things, but so far I have yet to come up with anything that I am happy with. I’ll keep at it and show you my progress next week!

In my own personal sketchbook (I keep two, a personal book and a Double Dare book) I have been working on my own project that is tentatively titled “Inner Dialogue”.

I’ve been drawing characters and their thoughts and I’ve been really enjoying the process. Drawing people’s faces has always been my favourite thing, so for once I figured instead of trying to go against myself I would just go with it and see where it leads.

Some thoughts come directly from my own experiences, interacting with the world and with others,  other ideas will float into my mind. I am in general a pretty quiet person who tends to think and reflect a lot before sharing with others, and in that respect, these drawings are an accurate reflection of me.

I think I’ll keep up with this little sketchbook project and see where it leads. What do you guys think?

Hope you are enjoying your day. Maybe you are somewhere sunny and warm, if so please send a little warmth and sun this way!

Bree
