Today’s featured artist is from right around my home town! Hailing from Niagra Falls Ontario Klassen currently resides and works in LA making amazingly beautiful illustrations. I know I say this all the time about my features, but this time I really am head over heels. Klassen is brilliant! I love everything about his work! He has illustrated books, as well as worked on the film Coraline! Please visit Jon Klassen’s website burst of beaden to see more of his beautiful work! Enjoy!
VERY quirky, original…kinda adorable!
😉
simply lovely 🙂
Great work! i really enjoyed it. keep it up!
His fabulous work reminds me of the illustrator of “The Hungry Caterpillar,” although Jon’s is more haunting which I love!
Lovely, lovely work. A really complete and rounded feel to each piece and each with its own ‘harmony’. That all sounds a bit precious but I was very struck by these and thanks so much for sharing them 😉
These are great! Thanks for sharing, & congratulations on being Freshly Pressed!
The beauty and simple lines make these true classics.
These are so awesome in a very enjoyably whimsical kind of way, if that makes any sense… 🙂 Loved ’em.
Beautiful illustrations!
Nice, Very multi-dimentional if you ask me. I look at your pics and find myself escaping into them especially the one with the boat about to fall into the hole in the ocean, nice! -,o

I love these pieces of art..it makes me want to get to my sewing machine…..
I love how simple these are and yet so wonderful. He would make a great children’s book illustrator. I would buy it!
I agree that John could do awesome work as a children’s book illustrator. Not limited to that market, but fantastic in that market.
I enjoy the intersection of humor and art. The Roosevelt piece and the boat in the icy sea are my favorites. thanks for introducing an impish artist.
I like the way you have let the art speak for itself! Generous of you to feature other’s work here too. The landscapes and seascape are delightful.

The airedales are cute! I enjoyed all of the art.
Creative. I enjoy the blend of dreamy concept, storybook illustration, and soothing colors. It gets me dreaming.

wow, this is great. I’m not really an artsy kind of person, but this type of thing sneaks its way into some creative crevice in my brain and tells me “This is wonderful. Love it.”

I don’t know if anyone’s said this but these remind me of Eric Carle a bit. A very mature, demure Eric Carle. Fantastic!

…Sharing a same environment on opposite sides of the world…
These remind me a little of Leo Lionni’s children’s books illustrations but on an adult level.

I wonder, what materials he is using? Is this old-school collage, digital collage, water color? It is really quite lovely.

Don’t let anything stand in the way! If you are a creator than you have to create! 🙂 I still work a normal day job though too like the majority of artists in this world. We can’t all be rich and famous, and that’s ok. Just do what you love, and what makes you happy.
i am now. writing. recently retired from teaching and focusing on writing. good luck to us all. thanks.

This artists is simply wonderful. I love the patch work feeling, as if these images were composed of intricately carved pieces of wood.

wooooow, I don’t remember seeing illustrations this good, ever! Absolutely stunning, thank you so much for pointing his work out.
I love these! I like how abstract they are but how vivid they are at the same time. Reminds me a little bit of ‘Le Petit Prince’. Talented artist!
I love all the muted somber colors and the texture on the last one. Thanks for sharing this with us. I can’t wait to go back and see what else you have posted and look forward to future ones.
Love Klassen! I work in a toy store, with a small but admirable book section, and his “I Want My Hat Back” was on the shelf for, oh, a hot minute. Got snapped up quickly–by a parent who definitely understands that a bear eating a rabbit in that context is HILARIOUS, not disturbing. Ok, maybe a little disturbing 🙂
