Happy Monday to YOU!
By now I am probably flying my way to the sun, but since there won’t be a featured artist next week, I thought I better make sure to post one this week just before I leave for vacay. This week’s artist is doubley awesome (to make up for no feature next week). Hollis Brown Thornton hails from South Carolina, and alot of his work seems to focus on analogue, and a sense of nostalgia. Alot of his subject matter are things that are obsolete, such as cassette tapes, video tapes, and old nintendo games. I don’t think I’ve ever seen such beautiful drawings of video tapes in my life, and all done with marker! I think the use of marker brings a certain crudeness to these amazingly well done drawings, and it also brings the viewer back to a time when using markers in grade school was all the rage. It think I can safely say that I’ve never seen anyone present a finished piece that was made with markers, but from the subject matter to the medium, it all makes sense together. Please take a visit to HBT’s website where you can find so much more amazing stuff!
